To meet your obligations under The Health and Safety at Work Act and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, in so far as fire safety is concerned and to ensure the safety of your staff, visitors, buildings and possessions, the HSE recommends that fire detection appliances and alarms are inspected and tested periodically by a competent person.

It is a periodic inspection which requires that a series of electronic tests be conducted by a competent person, in orderВ to establish the safety and reliability of your fire detection and alarm system. Without documentary evidence of a regular Fire Alarm Testing programme you may beВ liable to prosecutionВ and invalidation of insurance cover.
All devices and components which are part of the precautionary Fire Alarm System protecting your place of work. This will include all fire and smoke detection devices, alarms and signage e.g. fire sensors, alarms, sirens, break glass units, batteries etc. We also offer a Fire Extinguisher Testing service which can be carried out at the same time .
Testing must be conducted by a qualified and experienced FIA approved engineer. Competent operatives are those who have experience of test and inspection and have been trained and qualified in Fire Alarm System Testing inspection work. For your own peace of mind, evidence of their qualifications and experience in this type of work should be asked for.
To meet BS5839 Part 12002 and A2:2008 requirements regular Fire Alarm Testing and inspections have to be conducted every 3 or 6В months depending on the type of system and its environment. They must be conducted by a вЂcompetent person’ although in house staff should carry out more regular inspections.
Any remedial works must be carried out as a matter of urgency;В we offer our customers a remedial solution to repair any defects found during the test and inspection process. We will provide a no obligation quotation to repair any defects to the standard required by BS5839 and issue the required certification once the fault has been rectified. We do not charge for the replacement of small items – only for the parts themselves.
Yes, smoke detectors are an important element of your fire alarm system and need to be checked on a regular basis and batteries replaced. These inspections can be conducted in house outside of frequency guidelines for professional testing given above.
In general it is not possible to conduct any testing (apart from thermal testing) without some disruption; the level of disruption will depend upon the type of system, its environment and location of devices. Our staff are trained to keep such disruption to a minimum. If necessary we could carry out the testing outside work hours (after 5pm Mon-Fri or all day Saturday).
Upon completion of the test and inspection you should receive a report that provides the following information;
Schedule of items tested and inspected
A list of defects or deviations from the British Standard (these will require attention)
A Fire Detection & Alarm Commissioning Certificate?
